Yoursay: Let the court decide and let justice be served

YOURSAY | 'Charges being brought against you isn't vengeance, it's cause and effect.'

Najib releases video message, decries political vengeance

Anonymous 2427941469612457: "I have yet to get a chance to defend myself," former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak says. Yes, that's why you are being charged in court.

Malaysians are waiting to see the charges brought against you. You know what you have done, and you must have known all this was going to happen the day you were no longer the prime minister.

We voted for change in the 14th general election and to see the day when you will be brought to court and charged.

You brought all this upon you and your family. So, face the charges in court. None of your well-fed friends will be there to protect you.

If you decry being tried in the court of public opinion, then defend yourself in the right forum – not the media.

Sinner: Political vengeance? No, Najib, it is reaping what you sow. It is karma. There is no perfect crime. This is just the truth catching up.

Sukisan: Who would have thought the once powerful would become so powerless? Pride comes before a chilling fall.

Let it be a lesson to all the corrupt folks, what goes around comes around. I believe Najib is really in distress and in need of help. He is now begging for sympathy and support through the video.

However, in the midst of his distress, he is still a liar and still not speaking the truth. There is no real repentance or remorse from him.

Beman: Najib, there’s no need to go this extent, making it seem as if the majority of Malaysians believe you are innocent. This will only be seen as self-pity, a weak attempt to gain sympathy. A strong person would just admit what he did and repent.

Anyway, you will have your chance now to prove your innocence, if you are really as innocent as you say.

Clever Voter: This video would not have been produced had Najib won the general election for BN. From the day news of the 1MDB broke out, the country experienced a dismantling of institutional governance, including judicial independence, all to prevent the truth from coming out.

Najib as the prime minister was very aware and he was the man in the middle of this scandal. Attempts to muzzle the media were evident with arrest and threats being issued against The Edge and others.

Despite the electoral advantages, the ballot box proved to be the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Najib had not expected this, and he was the last person to think BN could lose the political power which was crucial to ensure his 'innocence'.

The agenda is clear. The establishment is accountable to people who put them into power. They have to rectify the changes, recover the losses and ensure that fairness and justice are upheld.

Najib, who was also the minister of finance and chairperson of 1MDB, cannot run away from his responsibilities. It is not political, but the only the right thing to do as part of the reforms to put the country back on track.

Ruben: Oh boy, what drama to tug at the hearts of Malaysians. When he was at the height of his power, his arrogance, cruelty, money politics and intimidation were there for all to see.

Just think of what was seized from his home. Over RM650 million at cost, much more in market value. And his story keeps changing.

First, he said he collected it over the years, then said they were gifts for his daughter’s wedding. Which person gets over RM650 million as gifts?

Chants of ‘arrest Mahathir’ ring out at pro-Najib rally

Sunshine: Indeed, an amusing rebuttal protest by a motley group against the arrest of a suspected criminal who is expected to be charged.

Is it not the natural practice to apprehend an alleged criminal before instituting relevant criminal charges, notwithstanding who she/he is.

The fact that it has taken some three years to apprehend Najib has many thousands possibly angry too.

The argument that this action is aimed at undermining Najib’s morale and breaking his spirit should be viewed from the perspective of many Malaysians who have been anguished for some two years over concerns about the decline in the morale of the nation.

And over concerns that he should have been apprehended long before and the matter resolved promptly, had it been not for his interventions as PM to prevent any credible investigation on the alleged transgressions against him.

Anonymous 2427941469612457: Najib himself knows what he has done and expected to be arrested and charged in court for allegedly breaking the law.

Demonstrate peacefully and then go home and rest. Justice will be served.

MA: So now they can light a candle for the fallen ‘hero’. I thought the last time there was a vigil for those sitting in jail, groups related to Najib said, “Bukan adat Melayu.”

Gerard Lourdesamy: The arrest was done by the MACC and confirmed by the attorney-general as the public prosecutor.

The 1MDB taskforce merely issued a statement. When Anwar was convicted by the Federal Court, didn't Najib issue a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), as if it was scripted in collusion with those disgraceful judges on the bench?

DAP has got nothing to do with Najib's arrest. It was this great Umno leader claiming to be a good Muslim that decided to cheat his own race, religion and the nation.
