YOURSAY | ‘Scam after scam, and it’s the migrants who pay the price.’

Nepali workers' scam: The whos and hows behind it

Headhunter: If this is not human trafficking, I honestly don't know what is.

These bloodsuckers have no compassion whatsoever. They don't give a damn that these migrant workers have to borrow the money to come here that will take years just to pay back before they can start making enough to send back home.

In the meantime, their families at home will be worse off than before the breadwinner set sail abroad, pursued by loan sharks and facing humiliation and suffering. Are the culprits even human?

Ramesh Nair: This is clearly legalised human trafficking.

I wonder why there is a need for this when the governments have embassies that issue visas for required categories with fees charged based on government set regulations.

Scam after scam, and it’s the migrants who pay the price.

Vijay47: This article provides tons of details on services, fees, and names – a lot of colour, but with no picture painted. In fact, my head is reeling from all the data stated.

But what is the actual crime here, and who were the persons responsible? Even the total amount payable by an applicant is not stated.

What are the comparative fees to be paid by workers from countries, like Myanmar or Vietnam, seemingly not yet snared by the Malaysian champions?

Rumours have, of course, been long flying around about the involvement of a certain Umno senior politician. Malaysians would love to hear of hard facts which would nail this politician to his coffin, but this is not forthcoming in the exposé.

Be that as it may, one thing is clear, Malaysia now has the skills to export 1MDB-like manipulations and corruption and the ability to create need – if there is no necessity for a bridge, a river can be constructed to run there.

Had this scam been allowed to continue, they would have next imposed a COOT, Consumption of Oxygen Tax!

The best part is that our crooks have come out with One-Stop Centres that comes in four parts (by the way, Malaysiakini, you might want to have a look at the Indian visa application fees imposed by a company acting as an agent next).

Lodestar: How shameful to rip off poor people who already make a big sacrifice in leaving their home and families to work in a foreign land.

The greed of these well-connected plunderers has predictably caused a collapse in the supply of Nepali labour.

Kangkung: Like former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak’s 1MDB, the web created by these people to divert money will make the average reader's head spin.

The government has to investigate this thoroughly and bring the culprits behind all this to justice. And more importantly, have safeguards in place so that in future this does not happen again.

Mahathir has asked how Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi got the RM230 million in his bank account way back in 1996. Is the MACC investigating this?

Vgeorgemy: Indeed, this is akin to the 1MDB of human trafficking.

Flashing Lights: Simple, have the MACC please go through the bank accounts of Bestinet Sdn Bhd, the company embroiled in the alleged Nepali worker scam and other companies involved to see who profits from this.

Anonymous_3af6378a: Even if investigated, all revelations by relevant authorities will amount to little. Outside of a few small-time players, the big fish with Umno connections will eventually get away.

This is because, despite the good intentions of Pakatan Harapan and those who cherish the rule of law, they cannot use race and religion to stay in power.

Anonymous #69337042: The mob screaming about ‘protecting rights’ should open their eyes and see how their esteemed leaders were robbing the country dry.

They should instead help the new government to undo the colossal damage caused and left behind by the corrupt previous administration.

Bestinet denies involvement in Nepali workers scam

Gerard Lourdesamy: Why do we need all of these private companies to get involved in the process?

The licensed agents in Nepal can submit the applications to the Malaysian embassy in Kathmandu for approval by our Immigration Department.

The medical screening can be done at hospitals and clinics approved by our Immigration Department in Nepal, with the report sent through the local agents or directly by the health authorities to our embassy.

What was the reason to appoint these middlemen companies? We clearly do not need them. The MACC should investigate these allegations.

Nagu: So what transparent rigorous bidding process did Bestinet go through to be awarded a government contract? Please furnish.

Anti-Corruption: Who are the shareholders of Bestinet? Who are they proxy for, if not the shareholders? Is Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi involved?

Fear God’s Judgment: Since the company directly involves individuals allegedly linked to a former deputy prime minister, there must be a thorough investigation.

Now that the Nepali government has banned its people from coming here to work, this has become a serious issue. It involves the good name of our beloved country.
