DAP has confirmed that it will not be using its rocket logo in the Balakong by-election.

"Two days ago, the Pakatan Harapan presidential council meeting resolved that component parties will use the Harapan logo (in Balakong)," DAP chairperson Tan Kok Wai told Malaysiakini.

However, the Cheras MP opined that all Harapan parties should use the coalition's logo in future elections.

"I think, from Balakong by-election onwards, we should use the same logo.

"We are Harapan, and we should use a single logo wholeheartedly to show the unity of the four component parties," he added.

The iconic DAP logo – a red rocket and blue circle on a white background – was designed by the party's founding secretary-general Goh Hock Guan and has been used in every general election since 1969.

It was last used in the 14th general election, but only in Sarawak. In Sabah and the peninsula, DAP, like other Harapan parties, used the PKR logo.

Harapan could not use the coalition's logo – a white arrow with a red background – in the May 9 polls as it was not registered by the Registrar of Societies then.

It has since been registered as an official coalition after it captured Putrajaya.

Last night, PKR vice-president Dr Xavier Jayakumar also said that the Sungai Kandis by-election today will be the last time PKR used its own logo in an election.
