Ministry to discuss alleged unpaid school security contractors

The Education Ministry will hold further discussions with the Malaysian Security Services Association on the allegation that the government had not paid for the services rendered by school security service contractors nationwide, involving arrears of over RM100 million.

In a statement today, the ministry said the discussions need to be held to ascertain whether or not the contractors had not been paid and the reasons behind it.

“Further discussions will be held with the association on this payment issue, and also the issues of quality of services, the absence of Certificate of Safety Screening and the need for Certified Security Guard (CSG) courses,” it said.

The ministry said as of June 2018, all school security service contractors had been paid accordingly, except those with documentation problems and those who did not make their claims.

The ministry, together with the Finance Ministry, would always ensure that payments were made for every claim for services rendered by the contractors, the statement said.

At present, there are 300 contractors providing security services at schools nationwide.

On Sept 14, Malaysian Small Entrepreneurs Chamber of Commerce claimed that the government had not paid the cost for school security services nationwide for the past six months estimated at over RM100 million.
