PKR POLLS | The PKR election committee has decided to postpone the party's polls in four states - Perak, Perlis, Negeri Sembilan and Malacca -following technical issues with the e-voting system in Kedah and Penang.

According to the Malaysian Insight, the postponement was announced by election committee secretary Ismail Yusop at a press conference in Seberang Jaya, Penang tonight.

The polls in Perak and Perlis had been scheduled to take place on Sept 23, while the Negeri Sembilan and Malacca elections were supposed to be held on Sept 29.

Ismail also announced that all voting results from the PKR elections in Kedah today had been invalidated.

The press conference ended in a commotion with some of those in attendance using chairs as weapons.

Indefinite postponement

A notice issued by Perak PKR election coordinator Abd Rahim Sabli said the state's party elections would be postponed indefinitely until a new date is decided on.

Meanwhile, Berita Harian quoted Perak PKR information chief Siti Aishah Shaik Ismail as saying that a new date has yet to be decided.

Perlis PKR chief Mohammad Faisol Abdul Rahman also confirmed with Malaysiakini that polls in the state would be postponed.

"The system has to be updated because there are a lot of problems. If they continue, it would be chaos," he said.

Siti Aishah was informed of the postponement in Perak from PKR election committee chairperson Rashid Din, while Faisol received the news about Perlis from committee secretary Ismail Yusop.

Earlier, committee deputy chairperson Adzman Hedra had said that nothing has been decided as of yet, as the committee would only meet tonight.

He also denied there were any problems with the e-voting system from his observations in Penang.

"All day I've been monitoring the system and there were no problems. Nothing froze, no votes did not go in. There are no problems in Penang. I don't know what the problem is in Kedah.

"In Penang everything was completed this evening. There were no fights, no one got killed, no shootings," Adzman told Malaysiakini.

Earlier today, polls for nine PKR divisions in Kedah were suspended due to technical difficulties.
