PKR president-elect Anwar Ibrahim is set to meet Works Minister Baru Bian tomorrow regarding the allegation of corruption against the latter's political secretary.

Anwar told a press conference today that he will meet Baru, the PKR lawmaker for Selangau, to seek an explanation regarding the allegations, which he described as "compelling and disturbing."

This morning, PKR Youth coordinator Ahmad Syukri Che Ab Razak lodged a report with the MACC against Baru's political secretary, who is running for a seat on the PKR central leadership council.

The individual is said to have offered contracts worth RM20,000 and allocations amounting to at least RM300,000 at a meeting with local leaders on Sept 1.

"It's up to the MACC to investigate... I personally read the report and watched the video (of the said meeting), it's certainly disturbing.

"I will speak to Baru tomorrow to seek some explanations. I certainly feel the minister must take notice of the allegations," he said after chairing a PKR political bureau meeting at the party headquarters in Petaling Jaya.

After lodging the report today, Syukri said he believes the contracts and funds offered by Baru's aide were in exchange for votes in the ongoing party polls.

These contracts were for development and infrastructure maintenance, he alleged, adding that the accused also had links with two other ministries, which allowed him to obtain further allocations.

Baru issued a statement later saying that he would welcome any investigation by authorities on his ministry.

“For me, such action if true, it cannot be tolerated at all, especially when we have fought so hard against such a corrupt practice. The process of law must take its course,” he said.
