IGP demands proof police stole cash confiscated in Najib probe

Inspector-general of police Mohamad Fuzi Harun is demanding evidence to "wild accusations" that police had stolen some of the monies it seized from apartments linked to former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.

"Anyone who has solid information or evidence supporting such allegations are asked to lodge a police report so that further investigations can be carried out, and appropriate action is taken to clean the police's image," Fuzi said in a statement today.

UK-based blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin last week alleged police had stolen RM43.3 million from the cash seized from the units in Pavilion Residences.

He had been referring to a writ of summons filed by Umno in the High Court last week, which claimed that the police seized RM160 million from Pavilion Residences, instead of RM116.7 million as announced by the police.

As such, Umno further claimed that RM43.3 million went missing during the police raid.

While not naming Raja Petra, Fuzi said such allegations hurt the credibility of the investigating team, which he said had acted diligently with the cooperation of Pavilion Residences management and Bank Negara Malaysia.

As such, he added, police had taken the accusations seriously.
