MCA POLLS | In a surprise move, an MCA Youth member has joined the race for the party presidency when the nominations closed at 5pm today.

The president’s post which was widely expected to be a straight fight between Ayer Itam MP Wee Ka Siong and former vice-president Gan Ping Sieu has now turned into a three-cornered fight.

Beruas MCA Youth chief Ngoo Teck Keong entered the fray moments before the nominations closed.

Ngoo, 30, is said to be the youngest candidate ever to run for the MCA's top post.

However, he did not show up after the close of nominations held at Wisma MCA in Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur.

For the deputy president’s post, it will be a straight fight between Perak MCA chairperson Mah Hang Soon and Johor MCA deputy chairperson Tee Siew Kiong.

Tee is aligned with Gan, and they will challenge a team formed by Wee and Mah.

There are also nine candidates contesting for the four vice-president's posts and 54 fighting for the 25 central committee posts.

Meanwhile, there will be no contest for the Wanita posts. Incumbent chief Heng Seai Kie was returned unopposed and her new deputy is Wong You Fong.

For the Youth chief's post, it will be a straight fight between Nicole Wong Siaw Ting and Ng Kian Nam.

In the male-dominated wing, this is the first time a female candidate will vie for the chairperson’s post.

The party polls will take place on Nov 4.
