PKR POLLS | Former Rawang assemblyperson Gan Pei Nei today lodged a police report on the possible presence of phantom voters during the ongoing PKR party divisional polls which led to a commotion at the Rawang division polling centre on Sunday during voting.

Speaking to reporters outside Gombak police headquarters, Gan urged police to identify those whom she said had bussed in dozens of the non-Selayang voters to vote in the division.

The polling centre was at Bandar Country Homes.

The 37-year-old candidate, who was vying for the post of Selayang division chief, said the commotion broke out when party polling officers went to approach some of the suspected phantom voters and asked for their identification.

"They (the phantom voters) came in groups and that resulted in a long queue at the polling station. Some of the disgruntled genuine voters left the area without voting as they were fed up of waiting," Gan alleged.

Malaysiakini had previously reported that several video clips were uploaded online showing Gan's supporters questioning the eligibility of some of those suspected to be phantom voters.

Gan, who failed to unseat William Leong as Selayang PKR chief after polls closed on Sunday, said her team was collecting evidence to support her appeal, and will demand for a fresh election for the division.

She claimed that her team of scrutineers discovered that most of those who attempted to vote in Selayang on Sunday were instead party members whose names were found in the records for divisions in Sabah.

Gan said although her team managed to turn away some of these individuals, others still managed to vote because there were simply too many of them to be held back.
