Azmin’s allies set to dominate PKR leadership

Allies of PKR deputy presidency candidate Mohamed Azmin Ali look set to dominate the top leadership positions in the party, following the release of the interim results of the Sabah PKR election.

However, his rival Mohd Rafizi Ramli claimed he would have obtained a 3,000-vote lead against Azmin it if weren’t for problems that emerged in the Sabah election. Azmin is currently 3,172-votes ahead of Rafizi.

PAC's 1MDB probe to move ahead

Public Accounts Committee (PAC) deputy chief Wong Kah Woh said the PAC would move ahead on its fresh investigation on the 1MDB scandal, having previously suspended it over concerns of sub judice.

Meanwhile, the US Department of Justice told a California court that it would seek the cooperation of Thai authorities to serve a warrant to seize jewellery believed to have been bought for the financier Low Taek Jho’s mother using funds misappropriated from 1MDB.

Umno, Bersatu Youth, speak against ICERD

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Umno is strongly against Malaysia’s plan to ratify the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (Icerd), as well as any interference to the position of Islam and Bahasa Melayu.

Bersatu Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said Bersatu Youth would also reject Icerd if it weakens or erodes the rights under Article 153 of the Federal Constitution, the constitutional monarchy, position of Islam or any other rights enshrined in it.

The employer of 48 migrant workers who claimed to have been subjected to forced labour has been arrested, after he lodged a police report claiming that the workers had “absconded”. The workers are being sheltered at the Batu Caves Hindu temple.

In a video broadcast through Facebook, former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak said he had never lied about the RM2.6 billion donation to his personal bank account.
