Outgoing Perak PKR chief Muhammad Nur Manuty says he will not give up his position on Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin's (Unisza) board of directors since he does not hold any political positions.

"I have no problems (being on the board), I have no more political positions.

"I did not contest in the PKR election, it's all over.

"I have met with the PKR president (Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to tell her that) I don't want to remain as Perak PKR chairperson," he told Malaysiakini today.

Muhammad's appointment as chairperson of the Unisza board of directors made headlines, as it came just days after Education Minister Maszlee Malik was made president of the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).

Unisza announced on Oct 9 that Muhammad's appointment would be effective from Oct 1, 2018, until Sept 30, 2021.

Following a request from cabinet for him to relinquish the IIUM president post, Maszlee announced on Monday that he would be stepping down by the end of the month.

Asked to comment on Maszlee's impending resignation, Muhammad said: "I have no comments. Good for him (for resigning), he's a minister, he's busy."
