Yoursay: PKR polls are over, now is the time to mend fences

YOURSAY | ‘A party that built itself on reformation is badly in need of it.’

Rafizi: I conceded defeat for the greater good

Cogito Ergo Sum: The elections, instead of uniting the party, have divided it into a thousand pieces. Deputy president candidate Rafizi Ramli is not helping by making this statement.

A good person will accept defeat graciously and help to rebuild the party. This statement is acrimonious and widens the ranks, not closing it.

What a pity. A party that built itself on reformation is badly in need of it.

Anonymous #33227154: Don't give up Rafizi, you fight a good fight. Many people value your sincerity and righteousness.

You are a great asset to PKR. Please continue to contribute to Malaysia and uncover corruption and scandals. The people will continue to support you.

Pakcik Am: In order to enhance his position, Rafizi must speak on broad principles, not merely transparency.

What about confidence building and motivating new businesses? BN neglected proper exploitation of our human resource potential.

Malaysian-United: Rafizi, can you please explain what PKR's ‘reformasi’ really means? To a lot of us, it means "reform the cruel government of Dr M" during the political crisis of 1998.

Twenty years later, not many people understand what your ‘reformasi’ means. In what context should we view your party's call for reformasi? Can you please enlighten us?

Sinner: Rafizi, you lost in PKR elections but most importantly, you lost in the hearts and minds of the people.

By putting PKR president Anwar Ibrahim’s obsession to be prime minister above everything else, you have squandered the respect the people had for you.

You are a smart man. But you are not the only smart man. Learn that.

TMF: For those who really cried out for a better government before the now glorious GE14 and noticed how much the man has put in or sacrificed, Rafizi has been the vital catalyst of our Malaysia Baru.

Livid Afif tears Rafizi's 'cai' on stage, wants review of election process

Ferdtan: Of course, PKR party election must be reorganised to have a better system. However, since this is the first time they were voting electronically, there definitely would be problems.

Even in the recent US mid-term elections, for a supposedly advanced country, there are still few seats not called yet due to its electoral process; some are still counting after more than a week after polling day.

Such important races like the senate seat in Florida, and governor seats in Florida and Georgia are not called yet. Lawyers from both sides are being called in to challenge the results.

However, to me, the most important lesson to learn from this PKR election is the indiscipline of its members from both sides.

The election committee should ban its members from wearing T-shirts with candidates' photos when turning up to vote, just like the Election Commission's rule for national elections.

In this case of Seberang Jaya assemblyperson Dr Afif Bahardin, he did not dispute the outcome of the election but argued that the process was flawed.

Yet he showed his bad behaviour by ripping a leaflet on stage. He could have provoked a fight between rivals in the hall. It is made worse as he is a senior party leader. He should have known better.

He should be called up by the disciplinary committee (follow the good example of DAP) to answer for his behaviour.

New Horizon: All methods of party elections as practised by Malaysian political parties have their flaws.

At least PKR tries to be democratic by letting each individual member to participate in choosing its leadership team, although at this initial stage lots of improvements are needed.

Critics like to highlight the negative aspects but ignore the positive points. Afif must have felt that it is his divine right to win and having lost, shows his frustrations.

If the whole election is flawed, his teammates in the Wanita wing who won and his team boss, Azmin Ali, who won the deputy president’s post, should not accept the results as well.

They are making PKR lose more public respect and in the process, given Umno a head start in the forthcoming Rantau by-election.

Darmakochi: The PKR election has to shape up. Such a very long period just for party elections. So much of bad blood exposed in the process. I voted for Pakatan Harapan because of PKR.

The PKR president must initiate a congress to iron out the differences within the various groups in the party.

This is happening because Harapan was not expected to win because of widespread gerrymandering by BN. Since Harapan had won, each component party must do serious stocktaking and strengthen itself.

The respective party presidents must send a very clear-cut, all-embracing message for unity and chart the future course for our country.

The majority of the voters had enough of BN and now most are left wondering what is going on between the parties of Harapan and within the respective parties. PKR is appearing as a weak, disunited party.

Anwar has to do something seriously regarding this so that the Harapan government can fulfil its promises in its manifesto.

Suvarnabhumi: When Anwar is gone, this party will implode. I forgot who said it or if I am quoting it right, but alas, "Nearly all parties can stand adversity, but if you want to test a party's character, give it power."
