Yoursay: So now, incompetence is Najib’s defence

Yoursay: So now, incompetence is Najib’s defence

YOURSAY | ‘He has decided he had less to lose by admitting incompetence than taking responsibility.’

Yes, Jho Low may have cheated us, says Najib

Anonymous 1890491455255851: A fair opportunity was there when he was still the prime minister to ensure that the 1MDB investigation was carried out in a proper manner. Instead, it was killed.

So former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak should stop insulting our intelligence. He is looking more and more inept as he goes on with his excuses.

StraightTalk: This “Jho Low may have cheated us” is the most ridiculous statement made by Najib so far on the 1MDB scandal and it is downright sickening.

The US Department of Justice exposed the 1MDB scandal as the world's biggest kleptocracy.

The Wall Street Journal kept exposing the wrongdoings at 1MDB and revealed that the RM2.6 billion that ended up in Najib's personal bank account was not a donation from the Arabs as claimed, but was looted from 1MDB.

Authorities and financial regulators in Singapore, Switzerland and other countries initiated a series of inquiries and investigations related to 1MDB's dealings.

Our own Public Accounts Committee raised a number of red flags on 1MDB's transactions.

And what was Najib doing as prime minister and finance minister then? He and his bootlickers in Umno-BN were only interested in enjoying the loot from 1MDB, and did not have any decency to even acknowledge that the whole world was talking about the scandal.

Najib and his entire BN government went all out to intimidate anyone who dared to question 1MDB's dealings.

The whole world was watching how Najib and his most trusted officials were silencing government agencies and institutions, including the MACC, Attorney-General’s Chambers and Bank Negara, and Malaysians were forced to believe that everything was absolutely fine at 1MDB.

If that fugitive Low made Najib his puppet, and Najib made his goons in Umno-BN as his puppets so that all could share the 1MDB loot, who cheated Malaysia and Malaysians?

Do we need to go on hearing Najib's miserable and pathetic stories that he spins to defend himself on the 1MDB kleptocracy?

Anonymous_3b6c1f0c: This is all very well and fine to hear, but the fact remains that money from SRC International and a certain US$681 million went into your account.

This man is pointing fingers here, there, everywhere to distract from answering the basic simple question – why was money not belonging to him used for his personal expenditure?

New Horizon: Why was he dancing around the issue when questioned on the 1MDB matter by his own deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin, and then sacking him if he did not know what Low was doing?

Why didn’t he ask for an investigation to be done?

Sin Lee Huang: What about the notion that the person at the top bears all responsibility? It is the prime minister's responsibility to make sure he takes care of Malaysia's interests. He cannot outsource that responsibility to other people or companies.

At present, it looks like our ex-prime minister has decided he had less to lose by admitting incompetence than taking responsibility.

Quigonbond: Yes, as expected. Between the choice of being an intelligent mastermind and a prime minister who was conned, he had to choose the latter. You can expect that to be the defence narrative.

I think most Malaysians will find that hard to swallow because he had since 2015 to bring Jho Low to justice and he failed spectacularly through deliberate inaction.

Kula: Youths unwilling to work '3D' jobs because of low wages

TA: I agree that the minimum wage for dirty, dangerous and difficult '3D' jobs should be at least RM1,500, so that we can get the youth unemployment rate down and, importantly, reduce social ills like drunken behaviour, illicit drugs, et cetera.

However, to do that, the government should also look into government contracts, increase contract values and ensure the contractors are paying their workers reasonable remuneration for their 3D work.

We are a 3D contractor for a consortium owned by the Finance Ministry. However, the contract is awarded by bidding.

We have local workers and we pay a minimum that is more than our contract value. We would be very happy to pay our workers more, but we cannot afford to due to the contract value.

There should be some form of legislation to regulate the law with regard to minimum wages and this should be considered in the awarding of contracts

Anonymous 2405371458107314: Malaysians have no problem doing any job, 3D or not, if they are paid enough such that they can afford decent living conditions – as evidenced by many who cross over to Singapore daily to work in unskilled or semi-skilled jobs even when they have qualifications for white-collar jobs.

This is because the jobs in Singapore pay them enough to allow them to give their families better living standards than a white-collar job in Malaysia. Many even venture further to South Korea, Japan, and Australia legally or illegally to work 3D jobs.

Newday: I agree with Human Resources Minister M Kulasegaran – people doing 3D jobs in other countries make very good money. Here, the money is terrible and the job quality is consequently terrible.

Just Sharing: Maybe the government should increase the minimum wage for 3D jobs, instead of imposing a flat rate across the board.

It doesn’t make sense when an operator who works in the comfort of a clean room and air-conditioned environment earns the same minimum wage as the 3D workers.

I am not saying the operator should be earning a lower wage, but the 3D workers should be earning more. They should have a higher minimum wage than the general minimum wage.

Vgeorgemy: The time has to come for us to mechanise 3D jobs to attract able-bodied citizens to participate in economic activities instead of relying on foreigners.

Real estate technologies such as stackable apartments and modular housing in the field of affordable homes sector are the prime example.

Such construction is done off-site in a manufacturing environment and has a safe environment for anyone to work.

The adoption of such innovative ideas and technologies will reduce the cost of affordable housing and increase the income of the lower-earning population, as these technologies can work with minimal skills.

Hello: Why not increase 3D job pay and make it equivalent to clerical pay? They use brawn instead of intellect and suffer in all kinds of weather.
