Najib says 1MDB is not one man's fault; Putrajaya to sue Kelantan gov't

KINI ROUNDUP | Here are the key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

‘1MDB not one man’s fault’

The problems arising from 1MDB cannot be blamed on one person because the company suffered "systemic failure", said former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.

This was his response to Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng, who asked if Najib would apologise now that Goldman Sachs - which organised the loans for 1MDB - had apologised after two of its former officers were indicted over money-laundering charges.

Lim said Goldman Sachs' apology was not enough and that it has to compensate Malaysia US$7.5 billion and questioned if the bank would have apologised if Najib was still in power.

During a campaign stop in Sungai Koyan in Cameron Highlands, Najib proudly described himself as the "King of trolls" on social media because he was "fighting" Pakatan Harapan with "facts".

He also told Felda settlers that Felda's "golden age" happened when BN was in power, unlike now.

In a special report, Felda folks explain why they feel indebted to BN for their fortunes and how Harapan was not helping them now.

Putrajaya to sue Kelantan gov’t

In an unprecedented move, the federal government said it will sue the Kelantan government for violating the rights of the Temiar community in Gua Musang over land.

Putrajaya will not entertain calls for a referendum on whether Malaysia should keep the death penalty, which the current government wants to see removed.

The Election Commission has ruled out mandatory health screening for candidates seeking public office because death can happen to anyone.

The Semenyih by-election – to fill a vacancy following the death of its state representative - will take place on March 2 while nomination day will fall on Feb 16. There will be a two-week campaign period.
