Non-bumi product boycott not effective, will only provoke anger, says Mahathir
Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has urged those responsible to cease their movement to boycott non-bumiputera products.
This is because he felt such a movement would not help improve any situation but only create anger in others.

"Maybe there is some shallow-minded people who do such things. But it is not going to work.
"A boycott is not an effective weapon. It is useless to do so (and will) just cause the anger of others," he told a press conference after chairing Pakatan Harapan presidential council meeting today.
"So don't boycott anyone's products be it bumiputera or the non-bumiputera," he added.
He was asked about a movement which began on social media urging the bumiputera to boycott products produced by non-bumiputera.
In one social media post, bumiputera consumers were asked to boycott on one day a week, a supermarket chain which did not promote bumiputera products and WHICH did not reduce the price of the non-bumiputera produced products.
A number of NGOs also called for a boycott of halal products made by non-Muslims.
On another matter, Mahathir said the Harapan did not discuss Selangor's unilateral conversion bill at today's meeting.
On Aug 28, PKR political bureau had instructed Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari (above) to brief the Harapan presidential council on the debacle over the state government's failed unilateral religious conversion bill.
The proposed amendment to the Islamic Administration Enactment was supposed to have been tabled at the Selangor state assembly’s recent sitting.
The enactment stipulates that those below 18 must obtain the consent of his or her “mother and father” before converting to Islam. The proposed amendment would change this to “mother or father”.
The amendment hit a brick wall when Selangor Speaker Ng Suee Lim cut short the assembly’s sitting by ending it on July 31. The sitting was originally supposed to have been held from July 29 to Aug 9.
