1. The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, in his official birthday speech, called on Malaysians to be united and set aside differences.

2. Gerakan Pembela Ummah rallied some 3,000 people to protest against the Penang South Reclamation project.

3. Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has agreed to proceed with a second samurai bond from Japan.

4. Mahathir also expressed concern that the continuing protests in Hong Kong may prompt Beijing to use force.

5. Police said five people named by Indian preacher Dr Zakir Naik in a police report will be summoned next week.

6. PKR president Anwar Ibrahim said the Economic Planning Unit and other local experts should be given a chance to provide input about the poverty situation in the country before considering a royal commission of inquiry.

7. Wisma Putra issued a statement rejecting the claim of Philippine Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr that Sabah belongs to the country.
