Johor Regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim has called on the youth of Malaysia to voice out their views to the country’s leaders.

Tunku Ismail, who is also the Tunku Mahkota of Johor, pointed out that the youth have a very important role to play in ensuring the continuity of unity and economic growth in the country.

“Any programme involving unity is good, because it is our intention to fix whatever weaknesses for the betterment of the country.

“Our agenda must be clear. However, young people should play an important role, no matter what, convey your voices to the leaders, as it is the responsibility and duty of leaders to serve, and be the rakyat’s servants. This is my sincere opinion,” he said when answering a question from a participant at the 2019 Youth Congress, pertaining to unity and the concept of ‘Bangsa Johor’ in Johor Bahru today.

Earlier, Tunku Ismail officiated at the congress organised by the Malaysian Youth Council (MBM) with over 3,000 participants, which was also attended by the State Youth, Sports, Entrepreneur Development and Co-operatives Committee chairperson Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali and MBM president Jufiti Johar.

Tunku Ismail said as a leader, he promised to assist the country in terms of youth development.

“I always pray for the country and your unity. I will always be here to help the youth to move forward and to bring the youth organisations closer to each other,” he said.

Meanwhile, 11 resolutions which were tabled during the congress were presented to Tunku Ismail during the event.

Among other things, the resolutions urged the government to play a proactive role in solving economic issues including unemployment and retrenchment where the pressure continues to be felt by the youth, as well as for politicians to cultivate mature politics and not drag the youth into their narrow political traps in order to solve certain issues.
