Unified Examination Certificate task force chief Eddin Khoo said it aims to submit its final report to the government by the end of this month, a news portal reported.

Khoo (photo) said the panel wanted more time to finalise its findings as the UEC issue was not only about the examinations, but also involves other aspects of the country's education system.

According to him, the UEC task force is also looking at the context of the country's history, as well as the future of its education.

"This is not about UEC alone, but the issues facing the community. This is not an issue involving the Malay and Chinese communities. This is an issue involving education in Malaysia," Khoo said, as quoted by The Malaysian Insight.

The task force's finding is intended to guide the government on its future policy with regard to the UEC.

Khoo is a writer and cultural conservationist. He is also the son of the late historian Khoo Kay Kim, who helped draft the Rukun Negara.

Two other members of the task force are Angkatan Belia Islam (Abim) president Mohamad Raimi Abdul Rahim and Dong Zong deputy chairperson Tan Yew Sin.

Two days ago, it was reported that Khoo had expressed his sadness over the tendencies of Malaysians to racialise the UEC issue.

Saying that he was positive about the panel's findings and that many issues had been resolved, Khoo said he was depressed on how the Malaysian society wanted to racialise the matter.
