COMMENT| Gabungan Bertindak Malaysia (GBM) read with immense regret the comments of Anwar Ibrahim against our advisor, Dr Lim Teck Ghee as reported in an article in Free Malaysia Today.

Obviously referring to Lim, Anwar lambasted saying, “This academic was quiet during the era of corruption and theft, but now he wants to say the country is disastrous”

GBM views with disappointment that Anwar questioned Lim’s rights and credibility to express his thoughts and sentiments on the performance of the PH government.

Lim is one of our passionate and principled public policy scholars. He was vociferous on the corruption and excesses of the BN regime when Anwar was incarcerated in Sungai Buloh.

A former UN regional advisor and World Bank senior economist , he was a recipient of many international academic awards.

Lim had an uncanny ability to sense the pulse of the nation. It would do well for Anwar to read Lim’s book, “Challenging Malaysia’s Status Quo” before casting aspersions on his thoughts and intentions.

Lim continues to be active in civil society activities offering policy advices through institutions, the likes of GBM, Center for Public Policy Studies and Center for Policy Initiative.

Anwar and Pakatan Harapan leaders may choose to disagree with his analysis of the nation’s political governance.

They can do so civilly with rationale, statistics, facts and figures, and not with personal attacks.

At the end of the day, the 27 affiliates in GBM like most other civil society organisations who were directly or indirectly involved in the Reformasi movement would like to see the new PH government succeed.

This includes rebuilding a ‘Better Malaysia’ which cherish the universal values of justice, equality, muhibbah, mutual benefit, shared prosperity and the brotherhood of every Malaysian rakyat.
