The MTUC, which is currently suspended by the Registrar of Societies (ROS), will hold a special General Council meeting this Sunday.

According to a notice sent out by MTUC secretary-general J Solomon (above), items on the agenda include the resignation of its current financial secretary and the appointment of a replacement.

The MTUC website lists Ng Peng Ho as its financial sectary. Ng is also the general secretary of the CIMB Bank Executive Union.

The other item on the agenda is the MTUC's Triennial Delegate's Conference. This meeting is held every three years and also includes the election of the umbrella body's office-bearers.

The meeting is slated to be held at the Wisma MTUC in Subang Jaya at 10am on Sunday.

The MTUC has been rocked ever since the ROS confirmed that it had been suspended following a probe brought on by complaints it received on July 2, alleging poor management of the union umbrella body.

The ROS said on Dec 18 that it had issued a notice giving the MTUC 30 days to explain why it should not be deregistered.

The suspension was to ensure that no other rules were broken by the MTUC pending the explanation.

The Human Resources Ministry has since offered to help resolve the MTUC's suspension.

MTUC president Abdul Halim Mansor (above) thanked the ministry for its offer, but then said the union never received a call from the Human Resources Minister M Kulasegaran as the offer to help was only made through a press statement.

Following the revelation, former MTUC secretary-general Gopal Kisham claimed that Halim and Solomon "hide everything" from the general council with regard to the notice of suspension from the Registrar of Societies (ROS).

Halim said he was shocked by this allegation and called on all MTUC leaders, whether from affiliate unions or the general council, to stand united against the suspension notice.

In his response to the claims, Solomon said the current MTUC leadership has nothing to hide and that they are more transparent and honest than the former secretary-general.

He went on to allege that the accounting of the MTUC funds was not completely transparent during his predecessor's era.

"So, I ask him to shut up, or I will disclose more of his wrongdoings during his tenure as secretary-general," Solomon told Malaysiakini.
