Speaker on March 9 Parliament sitting: No delays over Covid-19
Dewan Rakyat Speaker Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof said the next Dewan Rakyat sitting scheduled for March 9 will not be postponed over the novel coronavirus outbreak (Covid-19).
This comes after it was reported last night that a former minister and deputy minister came into contact with a Covid-19 patient, referred to as Case 26, on Feb 27.
“(Delay over) Covid-19? No,” Mohamad Ariff said to reporters after he attended the launch for the book Malaysian Parliamentary Procedure: A Guide to the Standing Orders of the Dewan Rakyat at the Parliament building tonight.
Both the former minister and deputy minister have since been tested for the disease and the results have come back negative....

The speaker was also asked about an update on the March 9 Parliament sitting, to which he merely responded, “I am waiting for a reply and that’s about it”.
He did not specify who he was waiting for a reply from though it was earlier reported that he would be communicating with newly-appointed Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin on whether the Dewan Rakyat’s sitting on March 9 would be postponed.
The Pagoh MP was sworn in yesterday as the head of a new Bersatu-BN-PAS coalition dubbed Perikatan Nasional. He is also being supported as prime minister by Sarawak’s GPS coalition.
His swearing-in as prime minister was the culmination of a week of political turmoil which started last Sunday with a meeting and dinner among former PKR deputy president Azmin Ali’s loyalists at Sheraton Hotel in Petaling Jaya which also saw the attendance of Umno, PAS and Bersatu leaders.
Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad had blamed Muhyiddin (above, left) for the political tumult, claiming the latter had used PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim to manufacture a crisis.
However, Muhyiddin has since said it was Mahathir who triggered the crisis by resigning as prime minister on Monday, a day after the Sheraton Move.
