Eight pro-reformasi websites today called on Chinese lobby group Suqiu to withdraw sections of the [#1] 17-point election appeals[/#] which allegedly questioned Malay special rights.

Webmasters from [#2] Laman Reformasi[/#] , [#3] Pemantau[/#] , [#4] Komentar[/#] , [#5] Jiwa Merdeka[/#] , [#6] Reformasi Rakyat[/#] , [#7] Reform Black14[/#] , [#8] Mahakejam[/#] , and [#9] Anti-Zalim[/#] , said that Suqiu had failed to take into consideration the sensitivity of the Malay community in questioning their rights which are enshrined in the Constitution.

"For the sake of respecting Malay rights, we do not see this issue from the point of view of partisan politics, but as a collective issue involving the Malays," they said in a joint statement posted on the front page of all their websites today.

However, some of these websites have also posted messages criticising the Federation of Peninsular Malay Students' (GPMS) 100-point memorandum which was made in a reaction to Suqiu's 17-point election appeal.

A number of the messages claim that the memorandum released by the student body was just an act to force, threaten and urge Suqiu (Malaysian Chinese Organisations' Election Appeal Committee) to retract their appeal.

Not first time

This is not the first time that the pro-reformasi websites have come together to make a stand on current issues.

In the middle of this year, Laman Reformasi, Komentar, Pemantau and Black 14 , jointly urged Keadilan deputy president Dr Chandra Muzaffar and secretary-general Anuar Tahir to resign for allegedly failing to fight for the reform movement initiated by former deputy prime minister Anwar Ibrahim.
