UPDATED 2.40pm | A vote of no-confidence in Parliament against the new prime minister is akin to a no-confidence vote against the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, said PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.

"Those who want a vote of no-confidence are the ones who don't trust His Majesty... It is up to the public to assess (such behaviour)," said Hadi during a press conference in Marang, Terengganu, today.

Hadi said the Agong has helped resolve a political crisis in the country and was wise to confer with party leaders.

On Sunday, Muhyiddin Yassin was sworn-in as the nation's eighth prime minister after the Agong believed that the former commanded majority support in the Dewan Rakyat.

However, the actual number of MPs who support Muhyiddin cannot be ascertained as yet and would likely only proven when Parliament reconvenes in May.

PAS is the third-largest party in Muhyiddin's government with 18 MPs. The largest is Umno (39) followed by Bersatu (30).

Meanwhile, Hadi said good Pakatan Harapan policies will be maintained by Muhyiddin's new government.

"Impossible promises will not be fulfilled, including our promises," he said.

Hadi said the priority for the new government would be on tackling the rising cost of living, economic problems, social problems, unity and the development of human capital.

Last month, PAS had planned to move a confidence motion in support of then-prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, in an effort to thwart an early transition of power to Anwar Ibrahim.

Hadi had said that this was part of the democratic process, which would allow MPs to vote on the matter.

“We know there are 'cowards' (penakut). Afraid of this motion. We (PAS) are not afraid. It doesn't matter even if our motion is not supported, we are accustomed to losing.

“What is important is that we want to save the nation. Not just the Malays and Muslims but other races as well,” he was quoted as saying by Harakah Online.

PAS dropped the matter after Harapan said it would leave the transition matter completely up to Mahathir.
