Kit Siang wants emergency Parliament sitting to work out MCO exit plan
CORONAVIRUS | DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang is again calling for an emergency Parliament session, this time to discuss how the country can prepare an exit plan for when the movement control order (MCO) ends.
He said the session can be held virtually, and is urgent as the Covid-19 pandemic is not just a health crisis but an economic one as well.

"Malaysia must develop its exit strategy, which must meet the purpose of ensuring that the Covid 19 virus, though not eliminated until the development of a vaccine, is sufficiently contained to allow the economic engine to restart and for lives to return to as much normalcy as possible," he said in a statement today.
The MCO is scheduled to end on April 14 but is subject to extension.
Lim (photo) mooted using the National Security Council and Health Ministry's division of the country in four coloured zones as a basis for easing the MCO.
The coloured zones are based on the number of Covid-19 infections in the country, with green representing 0, and red, the most severe, having more than 40 cases.
There are now 23 red zones in the country. In the Peninsular, there are only four green zones.
As of this morning, there are 23 red zones in Msia.
Lim’s call was reiterated by the Pakatan Harapan secretariat in a separate statement issued by Amanah secretary-general Hatta Ramli, PKR Communications Director Fahmi Fadzil and DAP national organising secretary Anthony Loke.
Should the MCO be extended further, the secretariat called on the government to implement measures to help SMEs and B40 low-income earners in green zones deal with the economic ramifications of the outbreak.
“Residents in green zones (should) be permitted to conduct economic activities such as opening food stalls, pasar tani, car workshops and others, bound by conditions and guidelines set by the Health Ministry.
“Close monitoring of exits from and entries into green zones should be retained by security teams as well as the implementation of Health Ministry guidelines and conditions for social distancing, hygiene, wearing of face masks and the forbidding of public gatherings,” the statement read.
Overall, there have been 3,963 cases of Covid-19 infections in the country with 63 deaths and 1,321 recoveries.
