CORONAVIRUS | Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob today said that states, businesses and individuals can adopt more stringent measures against Covid-19 even though rules will be relaxed starting tomorrow.
Ismail said even with eased regulations, business owners can choose to maintain existing measures under the movement control order (MCO) should they feel unsafe.
"Take for example restaurant owners, if they still have doubts on safety aspects, they can continue to offer takeaway only instead of allowing dine-in," the senior minister in charge of security cluster said during a daily National Security Council Covid-19 update press conference in Putrajaya today.
Relaxed MCO regulations for economic sectors will be enforced beginning tomorrow but several state governments, including Pahang and Sarawak, have announced they would not follow Putrajaya's lead on the matter.
Ismail, however, said no such permission has been given for more relaxed regulations, for example, restaurants to extend their operating hours beyond 10pm.
"We have issued the general guideline for all states and we agreed that the states could adjust it based on existing standard operating procedures.
"That is the agreement [...] if there are restaurants open until midnight, that is not supposed to happen," he added.
As of earlier today, the Perak, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan state governments have issued guidelines that retained the no dine-in rule for restaurants.
