Bersatu chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad has recognised attempts to oust him from the party he founded, saying he is willing to be kicked out as long as the move is done appropriately.
“We find that many mistakes have been committed in the attempts to remove me.
“I am willing to be removed but in a way that is in accordance with the party’s laws and constitution.
“Even if you want to remove me, invite me la,” Mahathir said in a video today.
The Bersatu Supreme Council previously called for a meeting but did not invite Mahathir or deputy president Mukhriz Mahathir.
Now postponed, speculation is that the meeting was to sack the father-and-son duo.
The pair is presently embroiled in a tussle with Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin for control over the party.
Elaborating, Mahathir pointed to how Anwar Ibrahim had been given the chance to explain himself before the Umno Supreme Council expelled the latter from the party in 1998.
“He was invited and was allowed to speak during the meeting,” he added.
Yesterday, Mukhriz said the supreme council could not remove members without first adhering to due process.
The process includes investigations by the disciplinary board into alleged wrongdoing and giving members a chance to defend themselves.
Members must also be allowed to file appeals against any disciplinary action meted to them.
Muhyiddin ally and Bersatu information chief Radzi Jidin previously warned that members risked having their memberships revoked with immediate effect should they join coalitions that oppose the party.
