The candidate to be appointed as the new Dewan Rakyat speaker has been identified, GPS parliamentary chief whip Fadillah Yusof disclosed.
Without giving a name, Fadillah (above) said that the candidate is not an MP, and when asked whether the candidate is a Sarawakian, he just smiled.
“I’m not naming anyone, but what’s for sure is that the candidate is well qualified and a Malaysian,” he told a press conference after presenting completion contractor certificates to 39 recipients in Kuala Lumpur today.
Last Sunday, Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof confirmed he had received a motion to terminate him as Dewan Rakyat speaker.
He said he had also received a motion to sack his deputy Nga Kor Ming from his post.
Fadillah said GPS will support whatever decision made by the Perikatan Nasional federal government and is confident that Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin had a solid reason for moving the motion to remove Ariff (below, right) and Nga.

“So, we will second the motion, the candidate has been identified and we will see what transpires in Parliament come July 13,” the senior minister (infrastructure cluster) added.
On the Sarawak state election, the works minister said GPS is ready for it anytime, but the date is still up to Chief Minister Abang Johari Tun Openg to decide.
“For us in Sarawak, we don’t work for elections, we work for the people and we are ready to face the state election anytime,” Fadillah added.
