Putrajaya has declared that Amanjaya, Kedah is to be placed under an administrative enhanced movement control order (MCO) from tomorrow onwards in an effort to curb the spread of Covid-19 there.
In a statement today, Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said three zones in Amanjaya would be affected.
They are Melor, Kenanga and Mawar.
"The special minister for the implementation of the MCO today approved the implementation of an administrative enhanced MCO in Amanjaya effective from 12.01 am, Aug 28 until further notice," said Ismail.
The senior minister in charge of security added that the order will affect 22,360 people.
Nobody is allowed to enter or leave the areas under the lockdown and the residents will be screened, Ismail said.
He added that public areas such as places of worship, including mosques, will be closed during the lockdown period.
However, shops that provide essential services are allowed to continue operations while other shops and factories must be closed.
Pasar malam and pasar tani are ordered to close but the market could operate from 6am to 2pm.
Ismail pointed out that only one member per family is allowed to go out to get necessities.
Earlier this month, the Kedah state government implemented targeted enhanced MCO in four localities after a spike of Covid-19 cases involving the Sivagangga cluster.
Meanwhile, Ismail said police would act accordingly in their recent arrest of a group of MCO flouters, which included the daughter of a VIP.
"Whoever detained by the police will be probed (accordingly). The same procedure will be taken. When there is a case, the police will investigate, and they will submit their investigation papers to the Attorney-General's Chambers.
"We leave it to the police to investigate," said Ismail, without specifying the case.
It was reported earlier today that the daughter of a VIP was among those arrested in a police raid at a pub in Kuala Lumpur last Sunday for allegedly violating the recovery MCO.
It is understood that the VIP is an opposition politician.
