Meera Alyanna Mukhriz has apologised for her actions after she was arrested and fined last week for violating the recovery movement control order (MCO).
In a post on her public Instagram profile last night, the eldest child of Jerlun MP Mukhriz Mahathir admitted to being “irresponsible” for staying out past the permitted 12am under the MCO.
“Over the past week, I have been able to reflect on the consequences of my actions, and I am profusely sorry. Breaking the 12am curfew was not only foolish on my part, but entirely irresponsible considering the current pandemic we’re all going through.
“I am deeply ashamed for what my indiscretions have brought on to my family, my friends and all of you.
“There are absolutely no excuses for my actions, and you have every right to be disappointed, but it does not exceed the disappointment I have for myself,” said the granddaughter of former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Mukhriz expresses disappointment
Known as Ally, the 25-year-old explained that she and husband Ezran Daud Cheah were arrested and taken to a police station after officers raided a nightspot in Kuala Lumpur where they were at around 1:30am on Aug 21.
Police also detained 27 others during the raid for being involved in pub activities beyond the business operation hours allowed during the recovery MCO.
The couple paid their RM1,000 fines.
“The police officers were nothing but courteous and fair towards everybody there that night, and I have the utmost respect for their professionalism,” she added.
Mukhriz previously expressed disappointment at the duo and said they deserved to be punished.
The former Kedah menteri besar also thanked the police for taking stern and fair action against his daughter and son-in-law.
