COVID-19 | The Selangor government has ordered 1 Utama shopping mall in Petaling Jaya to shut effective tomorrow (Oct 11) after the discovery of four Covid-19 cases at its premises.

The first Covid-19 case at the shopping mall was reported on Oct 5 involving a staff of Mac City Service Centre and another on Oct 8 involving an employee of Parkson Elite.

However, Petaling district officer Johary Anuar, who also chairs the district's disaster management committee, revealed that there have been two more cases involving an employee and a shopper.

"The Petaling Health Department will conduct a Covid-19 health screening at 1 Utama on Oct 14 and 15 starting 9am to 2pm.

"The priority for screening will be for close contacts who visited the premises on the above dates," he said in a statement today.

The management of 1 Utama in a statement appealed for shoppers and staff who have been to the cosmetic section of Parkson Elite on the ground floor as well as Mac City Service Centre from Sept 25 to Oct 7 to contact the Petaling District Health Office.

To date, the management said all of Mac City Service Centre's staff had tested negative, as well as close contacts of Parkson Elite's staff.

"KKM had confirmed that the small number of cases in 1 Utama are not connected and not spread by one source, with the infected persons showing no symptoms (asymptomatic) during their workdays at our tenant outlets," it said.

At the same time, the management also confirmed that the mall will only reopen after all 1 Utama and tenant staff have been tested and cleared.

Johary also announced the closure of Tropicana Golf Club and Country Resort after five employees were also tested positive for Covid-19.

"The closures will take effect on Oct 11 for contact-tracing and sanitisation purposes," he added.
