Deceased Top Glove security guard severely ill when admitted to hospital

The 29-year-old Top Glove security guard who succumbed to Covid-19 was already in the late stage of the infection when he was hospitalised, Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.
“When he was hospitalised, he was already in the late stages (of Covid-19), that is stage 4 and stage 5, and he was placed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
“We have given him the best treatment possible, but unfortunately he passed away from lung complications due to the Covid-19 infection,” Noor Hisham said in his press conference at the Health Ministry in Putrajaya today, which was live-streamed as well.
According to MOH guidelines, a Covid-19 patient is considered to be in stage 3 if he is suffering breathing difficulties, and stage 4 if those difficulties meant insufficient oxygen is reaching the patient's bloodstream.
A patient at stage 4 would need to be provided supplementary oxygen, and at stage 5, he would need to be put in a coma and intubated.
Earlier today, glove manufacturer Top Glove had confirmed the death of Yamnarayan Chaudhary Tharu, who died last Saturday (Dec 12).
The Nepalese had worked at Top Glove’s manufacturing facility in Meru, Klang, for over two years.
Previously, the Health Ministry had reported the death of one non-Malaysian male at the Sungai Buloh Hospital from Covid-19.
The patient had no pre-existing conditions and was referred to as death number 415 as well as case number 55,965.
The ministry typically does not reveal personal details of Covid-19 patients.
The Teratai cluster, which consists mainly of Top Glove workers, has 5,531 cases now and it is the largest cluster in the country currently.
The company has also come under fire for failing to adhere to minimum worker accommodation standards previously.
