Umno grassroots want the party to reject any cooperation with Bersatu and focus on building its relationship with PAS through Muafakat Nasional, but only if the latter party prioritises Umno.

Veteran Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah said this is based on the feeling of members at the grassroots level.

He added that following a meeting of Gua Musang Umno's division on Saturday, they came up with a number of resolutions to solidify this position.

"We are thankful that Umno and BN have played a major role in overthrowing the Pakatan Harapan government and we support the formation of the PN government until the 15th general election for the sake of the people.

"But we acknowledge that the PN government has denied Umno its true voice and role in the government today," Tengku Razaleigh said in a statement.

He said the members realise the question that Umno is facing now is the question of life and death, the question of the future and survival of the party.

As such, the Gua Musang division passed the following resolutions.

1) Umno should reject any cooperation with Bersatu in GE15.

2) The next general election should be held in the first quarter of 2021 to hand over the mandate to the people. If the polls cannot be held in the near future, then Umno MPs must attract support to the PN government.

3) Umno should contest no less than the number of parliamentary and state seats contested in the 2018 GE14.

4) That Umno divisions be fully empowered to select and determine candidates for GE15.

5) To strengthen the cooperation between Umno and PAS through Muafakat Nasional. This cooperation needs to be reviewed if PAS does not prioritise relations with Umno.

Tenglu Razaleigh has been a focal point for Umno dissatisfaction with its role in the current government.

He also said Bersatu was a party that stole many Umno members and this is not something that can be forgiven easily.

"(We) cannot equate BN with Bersatu. Bersatu exists because it stole people from Umno. This is not something we can forgive. Morally, Bersatu is not right.

Yesterday, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi revealed that 143 out of 191 divisions (74.8 percent) don't want to cooperate with Bersatu in the next election.
