COVID-19 | The Health Ministry is mulling to allow Covid-19 patients who are asymptomatic to be quarantined at home as its bed capacity at government facilities is reaching the limit of 23,000.
Currently, there are 22,089 active Covid-19 cases, with the country witnessing a high number of cases daily.
According to Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, with the high number of daily cases, the Covid-19 hospitals' bed capacity, as well as those at the low-risk quarantine and treatment centres, is limited.
"The quarantine centres for stage 1 and 2 cases are almost full, reaching 89 percent to 90 percent.
"We are updating the criteria. So far there are still delays in terms of health officers transporting patients to the hospital.
"The (active) cases are at 22,000, but our limit is 23,000. In our preparation, we are considering for 90 percent of asymptomatic cases to be separated and quarantined at home," he said.
Separately, Noor Hisham said those who are still positive after being quarantined for 10 days would be allowed to go home if their infectivity is low.
"After 10 days (of quarantine), we can allow patients to be discharged without having (a second) test as what's important is the infectivity rate.
"If infectivity is very low, then we can discharge (the patients)," he added.
Earlier, he was asked to clarify allegations by some patients who claimed that they were discharged on the 10th day without taking a second test.
