Pasir Mas MP Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said although the sector collected high tax revenue, that should not be an excuse to allow this activity to be allowed again.
"What's more, in terms of needs and priorities, gambling activities are not an 'essential service' that needs to be expedited.
"In a situation where the people are depressed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, allowing gambling activities will only aggravate the wounds of the people," he said in a statement on Facebook today.
Malaysiakini on Feb 16 reported that the casino operator Resorts World Genting, as well as other lottery companies, announced they had resumed operations after obtaining permission from the government.
The announcement was made by Resorts World together with Sports Toto, Magnum Bhd, and Pan Malaysian Pools Sdn Bhd (Da Ma Cai) through social media and their respective websites.
Magnum also announced that its jackpot had snowballed to almost RM16 million.

During the current movement control order (MCO) which began on Jan 13, the companies were not allowed to carry out their activities.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Fadhli said he also sent a note to the finance minister to re-evaluate this decision and was confident that the government would reconsider the matter.
"It is feared that it will only trigger other social problems and is not worth the tax that the government has successfully collected.
"Seen from the Islamic point of view, it is a great sin that is hated even in all the major religions in the world as well - gambling is considered an immoral act," he said.
