Ten years ago, he raised issues about mismanagement of funds, shady deals and inappropriate involvement of politicians and their children in business. Press rewind, says a reader.
On PM spooked by Malaysiakini's open letter?
Meng: All this seem like dj vu. Over 10 years ago, Hon MP Lim Kit Siang and many opposition leaders were raising questions about mismanagement of funds, shady deals and inappropriate involvement of politicians and their children in business. No answer was forthcoming and instead the public was given the arrogant cold shoulder.
Today, because of the childish squabble between two grown men, the rakyat now gets answers on many of the questions raised by Lim during the Mahathir administration.
The only way to restore any sort of confidence and integrity in the government is to free the ACA to investigate without fear or favour. Allow them to be an independent body to report directly to Parliament.
Furthermore, the AG has to order full investigations into all alleged wrongdoings over the past 20 years. The alleged Project M in Sabah, the shady deals in Tenaga, PLUS, Renong, the mismanagement of MAS, Petronas accounts, and the alleged usurp of judiciary powers by the executive and so on. Until there is prosecution, this administration cannot free itself from the shackles of the Mahathir administration and its reform calls are but mere lip service.
HJ Angus: It seems that the PM is not aware of the power of TV. Making a speech without checking the details can be a fatal mistake as far as a leader's credibility is concerned.
To rectify the error, an apology may not be sufficient but he may need to rescind some of those government projects given out without open tenders . Only then will we be sure he is really sincere about the oversight.
On Pak Lah: I'm determined to face all obstacles
Dhammika: The PM has rightly or wrongly said that he can face any obstacles. I wonder how he can say this so positively knowing that he keeps a noble silence on many national issues. Lately there have been many issues affecting the nation's various races. It must be true that his inexperience advisors must have been giving him wrong views.
The rakyat expect a strong PM to speak up and to immediately stop the rot in our society. He must command with strong leadership. Look at Umno Youth - it has immense authority to rock the boat. Why give the youth so much power without accountability. They are a bunch of badly brought-up political kids.
There is no good leaders right now. YB Anwar Ibrahim is one of the more suitable persons who has some international standing. The country needs him now to save it from sinking. The PM should consider immediately to step down and bring in Anwar.
On What does 'millionaire' Khairy know about poverty?
Suby: I was wondering why the PM never say a single word about his son-in-law when he made racial statements that created the tension among races. Does he still consider himself a PM for all Malaysians or does he support whatever his family members did? I felt great disappointment about that!
On 'Boo' to rename KLIA after Mahathir
Chelvam: Twenty-two years of Tun's contribution to this country was met with 'boos' from fellow MPs, who in turn represent the rakyat, reflect the shallow minds of MPs concerned. Like or not, that man put Malaysia where it is now. He is not perfect but at least give credit where it is due. Now I understand why Tun Sambanthan and Yap Ah Loy's names were not in the history books. Malaysian memang mudah lupa .
On Anwar again rules out rejoining Umno
Ah Chong: Anwar is the man to lead this nation and PKR is the party we have been waiting for. A non-race-based party led by the former deputy prime minister of Malaysia who stood up for his principles and integrity. How many leaders today can claim the same thing? How many will refuse to bend and wiggle even in face of incarceration and persecution, not just for him but for his family, friends and supporters.
I think we as Malaysians should look at PKR seriously and hold them to their manifesto and promise.
On Q&A: Why call ourselves Malaysians?
Lee: Gerakan party sec-gen Chia, please keep on issuing strong comments against the BN component parties whose leaders are using racial issues to enhance their own political and personal agenda. Bombard them hard because everyone has been trying very hard to be Malaysian irrespective of race, colour, religion.
Why are they not being reported to police for their communal comments? And why isn't the national unity minister not doing anything about it? It's better for the PM to dissolve the ministry and use the money for the welfare of the poor.
