Iskandar Puteri MP Lim Kit Siang has questioned what he claimed was conflicting messaging between Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and the Health Ministry on the Covid-19 pandemic.

He noted that Muhyiddin today said the government was studying the possibility of allowing interstate travel during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration in May.

However, Lim noted it came just a day after Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham sounded the alarm that the trend of Covid-19 infections was reversing to an upward trend.

"Why is there still such conflicting communication and messaging about the Covid-19 pandemic - demonstrating a kakistocracy at work?

"In fact, it is a classic example that after more than a year after the Covid-19 pandemic and having one of the longest Covid-19 waves in the world, Malaysia still does not have an 'all-of-government' and 'whole-of-society' strategy and approach to the war against the Covid-19 pandemic," he said in a statement.

According to the Health Ministry, the infectivity rate had risen from 0.85 on March 12 to 1.0 on March 25.

An infectivity rate of 0.85 means for every 100 Covid-19 patients, they infect 85 others.

At 1.0, it means our battle against Covid-19 is now stagnant and risks regressing if it rises further.

If the infectivity rate rises above 1.0, new Covid-19 cases will start growing exponentially.
