The emergency is not medicine for Covid-19, argued Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa in response to complaints that the pandemic was worsening despite a state of emergency.
Annuar was replying to Teluk Intan MP Nga Kor Ming who pointed out on Twitter that the daily new Covid-19 cases on Jan 11, when the emergency took effect, was 2,322 but had since shot up to over 6,000 a day.
"YB, the emergency is not medicine for Covid-19.
"I believe your comprehension can be improved to better levels," Annuar tweeted.
Putrajaya said the emergency was necessary to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.
Parliament was also suspended following the emergency.
Critics claimed the Perikatan Nasional government was using the emergency to cling to power amid an uncertain majority.
Since the emergency was implemented, another 1,594 people have died from Covid-19, bringing the death toll to 2,149 as of yesterday.
Emergency is surely not medicine. We all know that. BUT the emergency was declared by the King on the advise that it will help contain the covid crisis. It clearly has not. In fact a reasonable Malaysia looking at the numbers, may conclude and argue that the Emergency has made the crisis worse. That is if that Minister can count and understand numbers? I wonder? Oooooophs so sorry, the numbers that he understands well, I am told consist of ringgit numbers. Without ringgit, he maybe not so good. If emergency has not help ( as clearly shown by the numbers ), then we must conclude that emergency did not help, and should be lifted, or that the PM and DG has bluff the king that an emergency will help? Giving the King false assurances so as to have him impose and emergency?
