Pakatan Harapan Youth chief Shazni Munir Mohd Ithnin, who tested positive for Covid-19 last month, passed away today.
The 34-year-old father of three succumbed to the illness after spending about two weeks in hospital.
"It is with deep sadness that we inform our comrade, Shazni, who is the Amanah Youth chief, has returned to his creator.
"We hope that all of you will pray for his family to be strong during this trying time," the wing's secretary Asim Abdullah said in a brief statement this afternoon.
On July 24, it was reported that Shazni was in critical condition several days after testing positive for the coronavirus.
He reportedly was at Stage 4 of the disease and was in a weak state due to inflammation of the lungs and he required oxygen support.
Shazni, aged 34, was appointed the new Pakatan Harapan Youth chief in March, filling in the seat that was made vacant by Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, who left the coalition last year.
Shazni was also Amanah Youth chief, having been appointed to the position following a special party election in 2020.
Shazni left behind a wife and three children.
