Malacca targets Phase 2 of NRP by end-August

The Malacca government is targeting to move the state to Phase 2 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) by the end of this month based on the new threshold value indicators.
State Health and Anti-Drug Committee chairperson Rahmad Mariman said the indicators include achieving 50 percent fully vaccinated adults.
He said the state needed 15 percent more to meet that target after 35.3 percent of residents completed their two-dose vaccination as of yesterday (Aug 9) while 62.6 percent had received their first dose.
“In a National Security Council (NSC) meeting, the new threshold values decided included the number of cases in categories 3, 4, and 5 admitted to hospitals must be below 12.2 cases per 100,000 population,” he said.
Rahmad was speaking to reporters after attending a programme to distribute tapioca and rambutans to residents in Kampung Bukit Nibong, Paya Dalam today.
Recently, NRP Coordinating Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz said the number of new case hospital admissions for Covid-19 symptomatic cases in categories 3, 4, and 5, would be used as the indicator for the transition of states under NRP Phase 1, as well as achieving at least 50 percent vaccination of adults.
Zafrul said this was agreed to in a special meeting of the NSC and National Recovery Council (NRC) chaired by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin which decided to use the new indicators to change phases under the NRP.
Rahmad said the state government has requested the Health Ministry to place a refrigerated container at the Malacca Hospital to store bodies of Covid-19 victims.
This is because a rise in fatalities caused the hospital mortuary to be almost reaching maximum capacity, he said.
“Although it is not critical, 22 of the 26 body boxes have been used so the container is needed for us to be prepared if there are new cases.
"We have also been contacted by certain individuals who want to donate containers to the Forensic Department," he added.
He said a Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) Field Hospital is being built and is expected to be completed within 10 days near the Malacca Hospital Emergency and Trauma Department which could accommodate 64 beds.
