Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin is expected to meet the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Monday, amid rife speculation over his status as prime minister.
A source privy to the matter indicated to Malaysiakini that Muhyiddin is scheduled to have a royal audience sometime close to noon.
There is strong speculation at the moment that the prime minister is on the verge of resigning.
However, several cabinet ministers that Malaysiakini and other media spoke to have denied this.
"No (he is not resigning)," Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin told Malaysiakini.
Likewise, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Redzuan Md Yusof told Sinar Harian: "The prime minister is not resigning today".
Muhyiddin is under siege and is believed to be 11 MPs short of a majority in the Dewan Rakyat.
He has resisted calls to resign thus far and had been adamant in proving he has a majority via a vote of confidence in Parliament this September.
However, sources indicated that the Agong wants Muhyiddin to convene Parliament sooner.
Yesterday, the embattled prime minister extended an olive branch to the opposition, promising reforms in exchange for support until elections can be held in June next year.
However, the opposition overwhelmingly rejected the offer, leaving Muhyiddin with little room to manoeuvre.
The prime minister is expected to meet with Perikatan Nasional party leaders today.
