Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin earlier today ordered health authorities to lodge a police report against a social media user who allegedly has been spreading fake news against the Covid-19 vaccination programme.
Taking it to Twitter, he said that it has come to the time to enforce the law against lies.
“There is a time to educate and engage. But there is also a time to enforce the law.
“I have asked (MOH) to lodge a report against @khalids with the police and MCMC (the Communications and Multimedia Commission) for spreading fake news regarding Covid-19 vaccination.
“Enough lies,” said Khairy.
@khalids is the Twitterhandle used by the said netizen. However, the Twitter account was no longer accessible and was believed to have been deactivated around 6.10pm today.
While the minister did not specify what the report is about, a MOH spokesperson informed journalists that it involves a list of teachers who recently died.
The netizen had allegedly been peddling the list on social media, claiming that all of them had died due to the Covid-19 vaccine.
Another netizen, believed to be the daughter of one of the teachers listed, had replied to @khalids' tweet, refuting his claim.
“This data is wrong. My dad died not because of the vaccine. This data was taken from social media without even checking or seeking permission from our family.
“And he made his own assumption that my father died due to a vaccine. It is too much,” said @IntanFaziera5.
