MALACCA POLLS | A Bersatu supreme council member has fired the first salvo against Umno, and to an extent the DAP, ahead of the Malacca elections.

In a statement today, supreme council member Muhammad Faiz Na’aman will finally get a third choice for representation during the upcoming polls.

On one hand, said Faiz, voters of the past were apprehensive about Umno and BN which he described as “corrupt”, “feudal” and practised “warlord-ism”.

On the other, there was DAP and PKR which Faiz accused of “chauvinism” and “ultra-liberalism”.

“All along, voters, especially Malay-Muslims, feel guilty choosing either one. The fact is, no one is perfect or ideal in politics.

“Voters want representatives who are principled on matters concerning the Federal Constitution but moderate when it comes to diversity in society while focussing on integrity and economic development,” he said.

Bersatu and Perikatan Nasional, said Faiz, embodies “moderate nationalism”.

Faiz also urged voters to consider Umno’s role in dethroning Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister and Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu as the Perak menteri besar.

He said that Umno had worked with DAP in both instances.

“Now, the people of Malacca are again (Umno’s) victims because of their leaders who are trying to profit from the sand business.

“Therefore, we urge the people of Malacca to punish Umno and BN en masse during the elections,” he said.

Malacca will go to the polls on Nov 20. This election is shaping up to be a battle between three major coalitions - BN, PN and Pakatan Harapan.
