A Kota Bharu school has been instructed to suspend physical classes after a Covid-19 outbreak.
Since Jan 19, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama Melor recorded a total of 55 Covid-19 cases, including 25 new infections detected last Saturday, Jan 22.
"All the positive cases were from a screening of 78 close contacts at the school," Kelantan Health Department director Dr Zaini Hussin said.
"Following the positive cases, the schooling session at SMKA Melor has been suspended for eight days from Jan 20 to Jan 27 and will be replaced with home-based learning," he added.
At present, Zaini said, there are 25 active Covid-19 clusters in the state involving 684 cases.
He added that 10 clusters involved education institutions comprising 378 students and school staff.
"About 50 percent of the cumulative cases involve school students while the rest are staff and members of the public," he said.
