Covid-19 (Feb 19): 28,825 new cases, slight dip in hospitalisations

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry said 28,825 new daily Covid-19 cases were reported yesterday, bringing the total cumulative cases to 3,194,848.

Active cases currently stood at 243,342, up 250.0 percent compared to 14 days ago.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Selangor (7192)

Sabah (5359)

Johor (2715)

Kedah (2429)

Penang (2186)

Kelantan (1885)

Negeri Sembilan (1457)

Pahang (1367)

Kuala Lumpur (1247)

Malacca (818)

Terengganu (616)

Perak (475)

Another 34 deaths attributed to Covid-19 was reported yesterday, of which 12 was declared as "brought in dead".

Over the past week, an average of 28.0 people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 15.2, indicating that Covid-19 deaths are on the uptrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 32,310 deaths have been attributed to Covid-19.

The largest number of deaths was reported in Johor (8) followed by Sabah (7), Selangor (5), Malacca (4), Kedah (2), Negeri Sembilan (2), Perak (2), Kelantan (1), Penang (1), Sarawak (1) and Terengganu (1).

Currently, 7,199 people are hospitalised for Covid-19 - a slight dip compared to yesterday - of which 238 are in intensive care.

According to Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, hospital beds for Covid-19 patients are above 100 percent utilisation rate in Kelantan, Johor and Perak.

The use of intensive care beds for Covid-19 patients is above 50 percent utilisation rate in Johor, Perlis and Kuala Lumpur.

Since Feb 18, the Health Ministry only reports Covid-19 daily numbers the following day.
