Rough act against alleged thief lands two Prasarana employees in trouble

Two men believed to be employees of Prasarana Bhd have landed in hot water after they were caught on camera roughing up another individual who allegedly stole instant noodles from a convenience store in Kuala Lumpur.

As of last night, the public transport company has said that they are investigating the incident as such an act violates its work ethics.

Several short video clips of the incident started making their rounds on social media yesterday evening, showing a man clad in an auxiliary police uniform emblazoned with 'Prasarana' logo scolding an individual inside a 7-Eleven store who allegedly did not pay for two cups of instant noodle.

As of last night, the public transport company has said that they are investigating the incident as such an act violates its work ethics.

Another man clad in a red shirt bearing the 'www.myrapid.com.my' address then joined in, telling the alleged thief to pay for the noodles before smacking the latter's head with his hand.

MyRapid is under the Prasarana brand for its commuting lines.

"Pay for it. Or you want me to call the cops?" the red shirt guy was heard saying in the video.

Matter taken seriously

Prasarana said it takes the matter seriously and has launched an internal inquiry.

"The incident is believed to have happened when the victim was caught and alleged to have taken food items without paying at a convenience store.

"However, those who beat him have violated Prasarana's work ethics. In whatever situation, they should have called the authorities," the company said in its statement.

They also urged any witnesses of the incident to contact Prasarana.

According to police, the incident happened in Cheras. The Cheras district police are expected to issue a statement on the case soon.
