YOURSAY | Wan Fayhsal seeks to walk back on ‘protector’ remarks

YOURSAY | ‘Chinese vote for those representing their interests, no matter who.’

Wan Fayhsal: Chinese vote DAP because of communal protector mentality too

OrangePanther1466: The Chinese naturally gravitate to DAP because of the oppressive affirmative policies being practised by the majority to the detriment of the minority. The Chinese also support PKR for the multiracialism reformation platform espoused by the party.

Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal has dug a hole for himself so deep that he is now trying to walk back his hasty words. Why would the 70 percent majority need a "protector" when all the positions of authority are held by them?

If ever they need a "protector", it would be against the likes of the elite politicians who have been ‘raping and robbing’ the nation dry for the past 60 years while the poor rural folks continue with their subsistence existence.

Existential Turd: Chinese vote DAP not because it is a Chinese party. It fields candidates from other ethnic groups as well. It is also perceived to be the least corrupt of all parties.

Has Bersatu fielded a Chinese candidate? No, it can't. Because it is a Malay-only party.

Unfortunately, all Malay-based parties are tainted by incompetence as far as managing the country is concerned. When it comes to leaching of the country, they are the experts.

The fact is neither MCA nor DAP did much to protect the Chinese. They bent over backwards to please their Malay masters. The minorities survived by their own grit.

Voting for DAP is akin to supporting vernacular schools - Chinese parents prefer to send their children to these schools because the alternative is unpalatable.

Increasingly, many Malay parents are sending their kids to vernacular schools too, not because they are "Chinese" schools but because they do not teach discrimination like many national schools.

And many Malays are joining DAP for the same reason.

I Am A Malaysian: "It's not just unique to Malay voters. Why do Chinese voters still hold on to DAP? Because they too see DAP as a protector of Chinese interests," said Wan Fayhsal.

For Wan Fayhsal to say that, he is either ignorant or he intentionally distorts the truth as to why many Chinese voted for DAP.

Generally, the Chinese will vote for a political party that espouses a democratic Malaysia that is free of racial and religious inequality.

The Chinese, like all fair-minded Malaysians, will vote for politicians from a political party that aspires to a government that is competent and morally righteous.

Now, besides DAP having a semblance of the supportable virtues, what other political parties are anything like that?

GreenKucing3448: I'm Chinese. My parents voted for BN in the 80s and 90s. They thought BN would bring economic growth while DAP, as the opposition, was only good at opposing everything the government was doing.

While I was too young to understand what DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang was fighting for, I started to experience Malay affirmative action when in primary school.

Fast forward to the 2000s, when many of my classmates left the country knowing that setting up a company would eventually end up ‘losing’ 30 percent ownership to cronies and the elites.

We, Malaysians, hope to live in an inclusive country meant for all Malaysians, regardless of race.

The B40 (bottom 40 percent) are neither not lazy nor uneducated. It is unfortunate that despite their hard work, they cannot earn as much as politicians who do nothing and keep playing racial lines.

You can say whatever you want about DAP but to me, it's a party that holds strong to its ideals in fighting for a better Malaysia.

Newday: Wan Fayhsal, why does anyone vote for a particular political party or coalition? Because they best represent the interests of the voter. It doesn't matter what variety you are.

In Umno and Bersatu's case, it is a matter of keeping the voter base loyal no matter the cost. Corruption, cash is king, and cronyism ruled the roost. In PAS' case, fear of God's reprisals ruled the roost.

Result? Neo-feudalism that never goes away, which actually borders on fascism, with many below worshipping and fearing those above at the same time.

Wan Fayhsal, the more you justify and deflect, the more we know that you are no different from the rest of the feudal overlords.

Lat S Friend: Wan Fayhsal is just saying to the majority of his supporters (who are Malay-centric) what they want to hear. It is election season now or coming soon.

Why doesn't he challenge any of the DAP youth leaders to debate what he had claimed? That is if he dares.

The Chinese voters are very pragmatic people - it does not matter if the cat is black or white as long as it catches the mouse.

Many have supported the Alliance/BN government for almost 50 years and what do they get? They were taken for granted, called all sorts of names, and even ‘threatened’ with a keris.

YellowKancil0051: Clearly, Wan Fayhsal has never actually discussed politics with a Chinese Malaysian person.

How does he get the idea that people of Chinese origin will always vote for DAP for communal reasons?

All Malaysians should vote for leaders who exude competence and integrity if this nation is to progress. Only weak and lazy politicians use race and religion as a platform to gain voters. Even worse, they will use race and religion to justify their poor performance and dishonesty.

Anyway, I am aghast that this is the kind of person who has risen to become the youth chief in Bersatu. He is just some pseudo-intellectual kid spouting utter nonsense. What a lousy party this is.

OrangeHarimau0024: Wan Fahysal, we minorities support the DAP because the party is committed to upholding rights promised to us in the Federal Constitution in 1957.

We don't have a feudal mindset. We don't create personality cults. We don't defend our leaders if they break the law. We don't allow the DAP to steal and then buy our silence with goodies.

We're not scared of Jewish, American or European boogeymen lurking in the shadows trying to steal our lunch. We just care about the economy and for our children's future in this country.
