It is shocking to read the revelation that the 1997 toll rate increase was because of kickbacks. The minister implicated in this should be condemned for this action.
On 1997 toll hike to pay 'crooks and bandits'
Dhammika: It is shocking to read the revelation that the 1997 toll rate increase was because of kickbacks. The minister implicated in this should be condemned for this action. The intention to approve the increase because of kickbacks is a punishable action.
As a concern citizen, I want Anwar Ibrahim to get the 'Tan Sri' to file a police report for investigation to begin. The errant minister is apparently not ashamed and I want to ask all victimised Malaysians, regardless of ethnic group, to throw out the BN so that a probe could be launched and the culprits put in jail. Retired ministers are not immune, plus their billionaire sons.
Lee: It was quite rightly pointed out that Samy Vellu should resign from the cabinet post because of the increase in toll. For me, I would first like to know why there must be an increase? Is it because the companies are not able to make huge profits?
Not only should Samy Vellu resign from the cabinet, he should also resign as MP for he cares not the hardship of the citizens.
On Modern-day slavery: Who's to blame?
Seong Ping: I'm so surprised that slavery exists in 21st century Malaysia when our government is so confident that we can achieve the target of being a fully developed nation in 13 years.
By the way, I seriously doubt that the contract system practiced in the rural plantation sector is perfectly legal. How can the legal system allows somebody to be a bonded labourer when he could not afford to pay his debt? I thought the debtor is supposed to be declared bankrupt rather than being 'bought' to work for others by paying his debt for him.
If I have enough money, can I 'buy' a failed businessman/professional/superstar, who is unable to pay his/her debt, to be my bonded labourer? Can I 'buy' his/her whole family as well?
Ah Chong: This is an example of marginalised Indians in Malaysia. There are Malays living under the poverty line in the rural heartland and there are also many Chinese who are struggling to make ends meet. These are the people the government should help - the weak, poor and destitute, and those who have no way of escaping the poverty cycle they are in.
While our BN politicians and leaders fight to defend the 30% equity and the NEP, there are real Malaysians of all creed and colour who are truly destitute. It is a shame and a moral crime when money is disbursed haphazardly to Malay contractors and when money is wantonly spent on sports facilities overseas, and trips to outer space. In the meantime, we have destitute Malaysians like the Avadiar family and the many policemen who live under the poverty line.
On American duo see red over 'black' raid
Vijay: Frankly, I am getting really fed-up with black Americans finding fault with action taken by our country against them in our country.
I will have them remember that Malaysia is a democratic nation ably led and guided by our ever-popular prime minister and his team of capable leaders from Umno. The government knows what it is doing and any measure it adopts is always in the best interests of our country whose multi-racial, multi-religious harmony is envied by other countries, especially Singapore.
When it comes to ruling our own country, we are not greenhorns and our laws are there in black and white for everyone to see. Whose fault is it if the wretched who visit our shores do not use their grey matter and do not bother to understand our rules and regulations before arriving here?
I am particularly incensed by two points regarding these ungrateful guests who expect to be handed a golden platter just because they deign to come to our shores. Firstly, why are these blacks even complaining about discrimination? The apartheid policy was once practised in America for close to 200 years, and one would have expected that by now the blacks would have gotten used, as they would say, to this state of affairs even if it no longer present in their home country.
Actually these tourists are the ones who are being racial. They are saying that while other parts of the world may have racial policies, Malaysia should not be allowed to adopt the same stand. Isn't Malaysia being denied its rights, and aren't these rude persons picking on Malaysia just because we are Asians?
The other point that makes me see red is that they actually expect to be given special treatment, better than what certain sectors in Malaysia enjoy! Please understand that racial discrimination is a way of life in Malaysia - from cradle to grave - and it is the ultimate cheek for the blacks to ask that they be exempted from what even many Malaysians are subject to. Hey bro! Colour is the name of the game here.
This is Visit Malaysia Year and we welcome all those who understand and accept that we have our own way of handling ourselves. We are not in any way bound to the nonsense about human rights, justice, and such crap. Our enforcement forces can do anything they want, they are not accountable to anybody, especially the prime minister and if you don't like it, you can lump it. If you blacks don't like the way we run things here, go to some other country. Go to Singapore...
