Detainee dies in Kajang lock-up, 15th custodial death this year
A 45-year-old man held in remand for a drug offence at the Kajang police station lock-up died yesterday morning, making this the 15th death in custody reported this year.

A 45-year-old man held in remand for a drug offence at the Kajang police station lock-up died yesterday morning, making this the 15th death in custody reported this year.
The man died on the way to the hospital after experiencing what police personnel believed to be a seizure while in lock-up.
The police personnel noticed the man was having difficulties at 10.32am and contacted the hospital at 10.45am.
Medical first responders examined the detainee at the lock-up and decided to transfer him to the hospital for further checks.
"On the way to the hospital, the medical assistant confirmed the accused had died with the cause of death still unknown," Bukit Aman's Integrity and Standard Compliance (Jips) Department director Azri Ahmad said in a statement.
The police’s death in custody investigations unit and Jips will probe the incident, he added.

Last week, police said a 42-year-old man died of Covid-19 in the Indera Mahkota, Pahang centralised lock-up on April 9, after being sentenced to eight months' imprisonment for a drug offence.
He was given tuberculosis medicine that evening but was found unconscious an hour later. He was confirmed dead upon arrival at Kuantan Hospital.
Bukit Aman's Jips later declared no foul play was involved.
However, the NGO Eliminating Deaths and Abuse In Custody Together said it is premature for the Bukit Aman unit to make such conclusions before an inquest is held by a coroner.
