Covid-19 (May 18): 2,017 new cases, 7 deaths

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry said 2,017 new daily Covid-19 cases were reported yesterday.

Active cases currently stood at 29,971, up 9.2 percent compared to 14 days ago.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Selangor (850)
Kuala Lumpur (383)
Penang (145)
Negeri Sembilan (129)
Perak (94)
Malacca (91)
Kedah (64)
Johor (63)
Sarawak (51)
Sabah (42)
Putrajaya (39)
Pahang (26)
Terengganu (19)
Kelantan (13)
Labuan (5)
Perlis (3)

Another seven deaths attributed to Covid-19 were reported yesterday, of which three were declared as "brought in dead".

Over the past week, an average of 4.6 people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 6.4, indicating that Covid-19 deaths are on the downtrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 35,630 deaths have been attributed to Covid-19.

There have been 83 reported Covid-19 deaths this month. For comparison, there were 564 deaths last month and 2,235 deaths in March.

There are 1,235 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised of which 38 are in intensive care.

The number of intensive care beds used by Covid-19 patients is continuing to trend downwards and is at a level similar to that of early October 2020.

The highest number of admissions yesterday was recorded in Selangor (167) followed by Johor (150) and Sabah (90).
