Covid-19 (July 19): 3,902 new cases, 8 deaths

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 3,902 new Covid-19 cases yesterday.

Active infections stood at 43,144, up 36.8 percent compared to 14 days ago.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Kuala Lumpur (1,276)
Selangor (998)
Perak (294)
Sabah (234)
Negeri Sembilan (188)
Penang (178)
Kedah (126)
Malacca (106)
Sarawak (106)
Johor (93)
Putrajaya (82)
Kelantan (74)
Pahang (54)
Perlis (40)
Terengganu (30)
Labuan (23)

Another eight deaths attributed to Covid-19 were reported yesterday, of which one was declared as "brought in dead".

These deaths occurred in Selangor (3), Negeri Sembilan (2), Johor (1), Malacca (1) and Perak (1).

Over the past week, an average of 7.3 people were reported to have died of the disease, while the average for the past 30 days was 4.6, indicating that such deaths are on the uptrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 35,870 deaths have been attributed to the coronavirus.

There have been 105 reported Covid-19 deaths this month up from 89 last month. At the current pace, reported deaths this month will likely exceed that of May.

There are 1,568 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised of which 55 are in intensive care.

The number of hospitalised Covid-19 patients has reached a level not seen since late April.

The highest number of admissions yesterday was recorded in Selangor (158) followed by Johor (105) and Sabah (89).
